Is Sulphur Any Good At Preventing Spots or Acne Breakouts?

Posted by Steve Reeve on

Spots and acne can cause low self-esteem and don’t just affect teenagers. Sadly many adults suffer too. There are many products on the market, but do any work?

Let’s take a closer look at the use of sulphur (also spelt sulfur).

Firstly, what is it?

Also referred to as “brimstone” it’s a naturally occurring element found by hot springs and volcanoes.  It’s also found in our nails, skin and hair as they contain keratin, and keratin contains the mineral sulphur.

Its use was shunned for a while in cosmetics because people were put off the characteristic rotten eggs smell. Luckily, nowadays manufacturers are able to mask its potency.

How does it work?

It works by reducing the amount of bacteria on the skin. Bacteria which, if left, would lead to acne. So this bacteria fighting effect treats and prevents acne.

But not only does it do this, but it also clears off dead skins cells and gives the pores a deep clean.

It’s safe to use on sensitive skin. However, the deep cleaning effect also dries the skin so should be avoided by people with very dry skin. However, most people suffering with acne breakouts have oily skin so the drying effect will be welcomed.

Where is it available?

Sulphur powder one of many active ingredients in optimum-fx V55 Max.

It has been specially formulated to treat spots, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, blemishes and problem skin, but is also safe and suitable for those prone to acne.
